NAVIGATION TO ROUND ISLAND

Discover Round Island, a small island paradise located at the mouth of Lapataia Bay, it is part of the Ushuaia Department, in the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands, at the southern tip of Argentina. Surrounded by the waters of the Beagle Channel, in the Pacific Ocean, this natural jewel covers an area of ​​around 50 hectares, with a maximum length of 1022 meters and a maximum width of 840 meters. Its central coordinates are 54°51’49.26″S 68°28’54.47″W.

Despite the cold temperatures throughout the year, both the coast of the channel in front of the island and much of it are covered by tall Magellanic forests. These waters are recognized for their submerged forests of giant cachiyuyos, a brown algae of enormous proportions that supports rich marine biodiversity.

Converted into a tourist attraction, Round Island attracts adventurous travelers who depart from the tourist pier of Puerto Guaraní, in Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay, in the Tierra del Fuego National Park, aboard semi-rigid boats. After circling it, visitors disembark on the island, which offers several viewpoints and panoramic points. A path leads to the western end of the island, from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Chilean and Argentine islands and the Fuegian channels.

On the island, tourists can visit the Naval Prefecture detachment, built by the inmates of the Ushuaia prison. In addition, the southernmost postal unit in Argentina operates, allowing visitors to send postcards or letters from this remote place.

After boarding again, travelers can return to the starting point or continue sailing to Puerto Arias, in Lapataia Bay. Services to Round Island run from spring to mid-April, offering a unique experience in the middle of the wild nature of Tierra del Fuego.
