Expedition Extremosul: The Epic Journey of Adelson Carneiro Rodrigues in His Arctic 2 Kayak
Adelson Carneiro Rodrigues, a renowned international adventurer and kayaker, is embarking on a new and formidable challenge: kayaking 4,000 kilometers from Chuí, Brazil, to Ushuaia, Argentina, in his Arctic 2 kayak. This kayak, designed specifically for extreme conditions, was manufactured by the MG brand of Gustavo Feldman, who sponsors this journey along with other companies committed to the project.
The Expedition Extremosul is not just a solitary adventure. It will be supported by several naval forces, including the Navies of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and the Argentine Naval Prefecture. A key point of the expedition will be the rendezvous with the Sailboat Ksar in the inhospitable waters of Tierra del Fuego. The Ksar will escort Adelson from the remote Mitre Peninsula to Ushuaia, navigating the challenging Beagle Channel. This collaboration will ensure the kayaker’s safety during one of the most critical stages of his journey.
In addition to facing natural and climatic challenges, Adelson will undertake an educational mission throughout his trip. He will stop at various nautical clubs to promote kayaking among children and adults, sharing his extensive experience from long-distance crossings, including the impressive 8,000 kilometers he completed along the Brazilian coast. Through talks and workshops, he aims to inspire future generations of kayakers to explore and enjoy the sport.
Those who wish to follow this extraordinary expedition closely can do so in real-time via the GARMIN app, available at veleroksar.com. This tool will allow the public to virtually track Adelson as he takes on some of the world’s most dangerous waters.
Adelson explains: “I have explored the coast of Uruguay, evaluating each potential stopping point, which is crucial for the success of this mission.” His meticulous preparation and vast experience position this expedition to be one of the most memorable in the history of kayaking.
The Path to Greatness
The Extremosul Expedition, in collaboration with the Navies of Uruguay and Argentina, will begin in September 2024 and is expected to conclude in September 2025. The journey will start from Barra do Chuí-RS, in the city of Santa Vitória do Palmar-RS, and will end in Ushuaia, Argentina, in Tierra del Fuego, covering an estimated distance of 2,000 nautical miles or 4,000 km.
Two companies, @overwine y @mgkayaks, are the main sponsors of this ambitious project, with other companies joining as collaborators. Adelson Carneiro Rodrigues, a physical education teacher, has already soloed the entire Brazilian coastline from Oiapoque-AP to Chuí-RS and now faces a new challenge in his career.
